The Ogun State Government says owners of properties demolished for the construction of the 32-km Sango Ota–Akute- Ojodu-Abiodun Road have been collecting their compensation.
The government added that it would complete “all ongoing Ogun standard road projects” by the end of 2014, while new constructions would also be inaugurated, a statement by the state government said on Wednesday.
The statement said comments credited to some people in the state that government was only interested in pulling down structures and was not willing to pay owners was not true.
The statement added that the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, affirmed that no fewer than a quarter of those affected had actually collected their cheques, urging the remaining others concerned to come forward and collect theirs.
“The affected people should pick their cheques, they should realise that government wants the best for them. We are not discriminating at the point of payment, everyone who presents identification numbers will be paid,” Adegbite said.
The commissioner assured members of the public that the process of collecting the cheques was easy, urging the residents of the state to support government’s policies on infrastructural development and urban renewal. He pointed out that the policies were meant to bring about even development of all parts of the state.
The statement added that Governor Ibikunle Amosun promised at least two roads would be constructed in each of the 20 local governments areas of the state in 2014.
He said following the successful implementation of the 2013 rural road projects, done in collaboration with local governments, his administration planned to expand the scope with a focus on construction of roads that have commercial significance, particularly for farmers.
In a related development, the Chairman of the Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Chief Aderonke Folarin, said the state civil service entrance test would hold on Saturday.
She said the test was a follow-up for successful candidates who sat for the Ogun State public service entry examination conducted by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
