No fewer than four of
the six leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State expelled by
the party on Monday yesterday formally joined the All Progressives Congress
(APC) at a rally in Illesa.
The former PDP members
were received into the APC by the state Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, at a
campaign rally organised by the APC in Ilesa.
The PDP leaders are the
former state Secretary, Chief Yinka Adeojo, former Chairman, Osogbo Local
Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, former Personal Assistant to former
Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Mr Razaq Oyelami and a former Assistant State
Secretary of the party, Alhaji Razaq Oyetunji.
The PDP had on Monday
announced the expulsion of six of its members over an alleged anti-party
activities and franternising with former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
The state chairman of
the party, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, said the former PDP members who are still
members of various federal boards, risk loosing their appointments.
Aregbesola, who
spoke at the rally, cursed those who intend to cause confusion in the
state ahead of the August 9 governorship election.
He also urged the
people of the state to curse those who plan to ruin the state for political
reasons.
Aregbesola also asked
the people of the state to pray fervently for the smooth conduct of the
election, saying the election would determine the future of the state. Also
speaking, the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, admonished APC
supporters to vote for Aregbesola on August 9.
The party said lying
was a trademark of the PDP.
Reacting to a statement
credited to PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh that, “while its
candidate and members had been campaigning, the APC had been engaging in
political gallivanting, rigmarole and ineffective propaganda.”
According to APC
spokesman in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said: “This is not different from
the low-level intelligence of the Osun PDP executives.
According to the party,
Metuh is unaware of the unprecedented crowd that grace APC rallies shows the
abysmal level of ignorance at the apex of PDP hierarchy, or the sorry state of
denial or both in which the PDP wallows.
“Olisa Metuh is as much
a liar as Omisore,” the APC declared.”
