Ado Ekiti—The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Oye
Bandele yesterday lamented poor attitude of students to payment of
school fees, saying only 2,000 out of the 17,600 students population of
the institution have paid their tuition fees.
This was just as the VC promised to convoke a summit on Internally Generated Revenue, with intention to make every faculty a viable revenue generating sources to make up for the dwindling funds accruing to the institution.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the Vice Chancellor, who resumed office December 1, following the expiration of his predecessor’s tenure, Prof Oladipo Aina, also disclosed that the management would soon begin a two-year programme leading to the conversion of Higher National Diploma certificate to degree status.
Expressing concern over the refusal of the students to pay fully the N40,000 tuition fee, Prof Bandele said the nonchalant attitude to school fees payment could frustrate his efforts in the provision of infrastructures and welfare packages.
He appealed to the 15,600 students who are yet to pay their fees, to redeem their full payment before December 20, 2016.
The former Vice Chancellor of the scrapped University of Science and Technology, Ifaki Ekiti and Ekiti State University of Education, said the university is setting machinery in motion for the exploration of business ventures like bakery, block industry, sachet water business, farming etc , to shore up the IGr of the institution in view of the dwindling allocation to the state.
The scholar promised to build on the legacy left by his predecessor in infrastructural development through public –private partnership initiative.
